Alake of Egbaland Endorses Abeokuta Polo Club, Pledges Royal Support for Community Advancement

The Abeokuta Polo Club has received a major endorsement from His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, who assured the club of strong backing from the Egba traditional institution as the Clubs holds its Ground Breaking Ceremony on Saturday, 17th May, 2025 at Kobape, Shagamu-Abeokuta Expressway.

The monarch gave his blessing during a courtesy visit by the Club’s Groundbreaking Committee to the Ake Palace. The team was led by the Club’s President, Dr. Sheriff Adams Abdulrahman, and Committee Chairman, Chief Abiodun Lasile, the Orunto of Owu Kingdom.

Commending the initiative, Oba Gbadebo lauded the polo project as a strategic development aligned with his broader vision of a modern, economically vibrant Egbaland. He emphasized the role of sports, particularly polo, in attracting investment, promoting tourism, and creating opportunities for local youth.

“The establishment of a polo club in Abeokuta introduces a dynamic avenue for cultural exchange, economic stimulation, and youth engagement,” the monarch said. “It’s a welcome innovation that reinforces our commitment to progressive community-building.”

He also pledged full support for the project, stating that the traditional council stands ready to work with the Club to ensure its success and sustainability.

In their remarks, committee members expressed appreciation for the Alake’s warm reception and commitment to the initiative. Chief Abiodun Lasile noted that the royal endorsement would serve as a strong motivator for the team to deliver a project that brings pride and prosperity to Egbaland.

The interaction concluded with a mutual agreement to pursue a long-term partnership, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of Abeokuta’s sporting and tourism sector
