Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism Partners Abeokuta Polo Club to Boost Tourism and Economic Development

The Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism has expressed its readiness to collaborate closely with the Abeokuta Polo Club, aiming to expand the State’s tourism landscape and drive economic advancement.

This commitment was made by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, during a meeting with a delegation from the Abeokuta Polo Club, led by its President, Dr. Adams Sheriff, at the Ministry’s office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Hon. Fagbayi described the introduction of Polo as a significant and timely addition to the State’s tourism portfolio, highlighting its capacity to create employment opportunities and enhance visitor attractions.
“The inclusion of Polo is a remarkable step forward for Ogun State. Beyond entertainment, it has the potential to unlock new economic opportunities,” he said.

He further assured that the Ministry would incorporate Polo into its official tourism calendar and praised the Club for its innovative approach.
“We are committed to supporting this initiative and envision the Abeokuta Polo Club becoming the leading Polo destination in the southwest region,” the Commissioner added.

Speaking further, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Yusuff Quudus, emphasized the need for strategic infrastructure development around the Polo Centre.
“To maximize the full benefits, we must consider investing in hotels and resorts in proximity to the facility. This will enhance the tourist experience and significantly boost the State’s revenue base,” he noted.

In response, the President of the Abeokuta Polo Club, Dr. Adams Sheriff, disclosed that preparations are already underway for the Club’s Ground Breaking Events on Satruday, 17th May, 2025 at Kobape, Shagamu-Abeokuta Expressway, signaling the beginning of a new chapter for Polo in Ogun State.
